Tenant police verification online — Noida & Greater Noida

In Gautam Buddh Nagar, landlords are required to get tenants police-verified — it's periodically enforced with drives and fines, and most renters have never heard of it until a notice shows up in the society group. The good news: the online route is free and takes about 15 minutes.
Whose job is it?
Legally the landlord's — the obligation (and any penalty for skipping it) sits with the owner, not you. In practice landlords ask tenants to share documents, and many outsource the whole thing to you. It costs you nothing to cooperate and protects both sides, so just do it during move-in week.
The online route via UPCOP (15 minutes, free)
- Install UPCOP — UP Police's official app (Android/iOS), or use the UP Police citizen portal (uppolice.gov.in).
- Find "Tenant / Servant Verification" under Citizen Services.
- Fill in tenant details, landlord details and the rented address; upload a photo + ID (Aadhaar works).
- Submit — you get a reference number, and the request routes to the local police station. Keep the acknowledgement PDF/screenshot with your rent agreement.
Documents checklist
- Tenant photo (a phone selfie against a plain wall is fine)
- Tenant government ID — Aadhaar is standard; passport or driving licence also work
- Rented address + landlord's name and phone number

Nothing needs notarising for the online route, and there is no official fee.
Greater Noida & GN West: same process, same district
The entire district falls under the Gautam Buddh Nagar police commissionerate, so the same UPCOP flow covers Noida sectors, Greater Noida and Greater Noida West — the request simply routes to your area's police station (Bisrakh thana covers most of GN West's big societies; the Surajpur / Knowledge Park side covers Greater Noida). The offline alternative is a form at that local station — same information, more queueing. Societies' RWAs sometimes run verification camps; those are legitimate too.
Why bother (beyond the rule)
- A verified tenancy protects you in disputes — it's dated, official proof you live there, useful for address-proof chains.
- Landlords who refuse paperwork of any kind are a red flag in general.
- During enforcement drives, unverified tenancies create hassle for tenants too (visits, questioning), not just fines for owners.
